Not Your Typical “Stand Still and Smile” Photographer

At Grit and Grace Photography, I do things a little differently—and honestly, that’s exactly the point. I’m not a stiff, overly posed, look-at-the-camera-and-cheese kind of photographer. (In fact, “cheese” is not even in my vocabulary.) I’m a candid and lifestyle photographer, which means I focus on real moments, real connection, and real memories.

What Candid & Lifestyle Photography Really Means

Candid photography is about capturing your family as you truly are. The belly laughs. The quiet snuggles. The chaos. The joy. The in-between moments you don’t even realize are happening until you see them frozen in time.

Instead of forcing everyone to stand perfectly still, hands neatly placed, smiling on command, I encourage movement and interaction. I want your session to feel more like a fun afternoon together than a formal photo appointment.

How to Prepare Your Family (This Is Important 😉)

Before your session, please tell your family one thing:

Run. Play. Laugh. Interact.

I’ll guide you, I promise, but the magic happens when you let go and just be. Let your kids explore, twirl, race, cuddle, joke around, and show off their personalities. Let parents relax, connect, and enjoy their people instead of worrying about perfection.

Yes, I’ll grab a couple of posed photos, because Grandma loves those 😉 but the heart of your gallery will be built around movement, emotion, and connection.

Years from now, you won’t remember whether everyone’s hair was perfect or if someone’s shirt got a little wrinkled. What you will remember is how your child laughed with their whole body, how your partner looked at you when you weren’t paying attention, and how your family felt together in that season of life. That’s what I want hanging on your walls.

There’s no pressure to perform. No forced smiles. No awkward posing. Just space to be yourselves and create memories while I quietly document the beauty unfolding in front of me. If you’re looking for perfectly posed, traditional portraits, I may not be your photographer, and that’s okay. But if you want images that feel alive, emotional, and true to your family, then you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

Welcome to Grit and Grace Photography, where memories matter more than perfection.
